Michael Barrett*

Michael Barrett is the Director of Risk Management for Ruby Tuesday Inc. headquartered out of Maryville, TN. Michael’s primary function is to oversee and administer property and casualty claims for the 700 company owned restaurants featuring over 40,000 employees.

In Michael’s decade with Ruby Tuesday, he has assisted in changing the way the Company manages and administers their risks. Through the use of strong team effort, Ruby Tuesday has been able to reduce workers compensation claims by significant margins, increase safety awareness, and ultimately reduce the overall cost of risk. Michael prides himself in being part of a dynamic team who is able to respond to focus areas in restaurants by outside the box thinking and constant cooperation with restaurant managers.

Prior to coming to Ruby Tuesday Inc., Michael spent many years in public accounting. He also participates in RIMS, the National Restaurant Association, and is involved in various client directed counsels. Michael welcomes the opportunity to speak at the Self Funding Conference and relay some of the lessons learned in taking complete ownership in your Risk program.
